San Diego, California, USA

03/15/17

Summary

I visited San Diego (3 nights) in March 2017 with friends. With its year-round great weather, San Diego has many great restaurants, activities and neighborhoods to explore – from Gaslamp to La Jolla to Pacific Beach etc. Whether going with family or friends, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Accommodations

We stayed at the Westin Gaslamp which is a nice, spacious, welcoming hotel at the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter – a great location for us because it is a close walk to Gaslamp but not directly in it.

Select Favorites
    • Pacific Beach: We took trips along the coastline of Pacific Beach for great views, a good workout or just to enjoy the great weather along the beach. We enjoyed Taco Surf for a very casual lunch and checked out the famous sunsets at Pacific Beach while having a drink at JRDN at the Tower23 hotel
    • La Jolla: Another great destination to walk around and take in the coastal views, La Jolla has its coves for viewing Sea Lions and a fantastic brunch place (if you are willing to wait!) called The Cottage
    • Gaslamp Quarter: Gaslamp is great place to go out in the evening for a causal and fun time in town. 5th avenue is the main street and has bunch of great dining options. For dinner, we enjoyed Union Kitchen & Tap and Greystone Steakhouse and for evening drinks consider Barleymash or Searsucker. Finally, if you like cigars, Cesar Cigar & Spirits is a good choice because it is one of the few cigar bars that also has a full cocktail bar.
    • Golf: San Diego has many golf courses for all skill levels and price points. Showtime Golf is a great service that can help you make sense of all the options. From local courses like Coronado and Riverwalk (which we played) to the famous (and expensive) Torrey Pines, there is an option for everyone.

Recommendation

I would recommend San Diego as a destination to visit, especially if you are looking for moderate to warm weather in the winter months (when much of the rest of the US is cold) and a relaxing, friendly city to vacation or staycation. Enjoy!
