Summary
Each year since 2015, our family visits our close friends who have a home in Moultonborough, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. We typically spend 3 summer nights either during July 4th or Labor Day weekend. The trip is made even more special since our young kids are the same age and each year they become better friends. The towns we tend visit along the lake – e.g. Center Harbor, Meredith, Moultonborough etc – provide for a relaxing and rejuvenating escape while the Lake itself is both a place of peace but also great watersports. We look forward to the visit each year and are excited to keep experiencing new restaurants and activities on each visit
Accommodations
We stay with our close friends who have a perfectly situated home right at the edge of Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough.

- Dining: Often time during our visit, we find ourselves enjoying the grill / making meals at home in a more relaxing setting with the wonderful lake views. However, we often do go out and have certainly found some go-tos. In Moultonborough itself, we enjoy Murphy’s Pizza for takeout and El Mariachi for casual Mexican (either lunch or dinner). In nearby Meredith, we loved the cider & donuts and farm to table brunch at Moulton Farm, a casual and excellent café brunch at Sunshine and Pa’s and dinner at Lakehouse Grille with its nice cozy bar next door for a drink afterwards. No trip is complete without brunch at Mug By The Bay (The Bay Restaurant) in Center Harbor after taking the kids to the beach and playground.
- Activities: Our favorite activities revolve around the lake – e.g. boating, tubing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing etc – so we try to spend as much time on it as much as possible. We often visit Meredith for its nice shops and waterfront walking areas and Center Harbor because it has a nice little beach and playground area which is great for families with kids. We also have enjoyed the nice walks, beautiful hilltop views and history lessons at the Castle in the Clouds.
Recommendation
We find Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding towns to be a wonderful escape from Boston and NY and would highly recommend visiting. The towns are extremely charming, the New England hospitality is very welcoming and the Lake community offers an abundance of activities in both the summer and winter. We look forward to next year’s visit already!
