Summary
I visited New Orleans (3 nights) in March 2019 with a close friend for a golf trip. With its great spring weather, New Orleans has many great restaurants, activities and neighborhoods to explore – from French Quarter to the Warehouse to the newly revitalized Uptown. The town feels expansive, but the neighborhoods are very small which makes them a lot of fun to explore.
Accommodations
We stayed at The Roosevelt – A Waldorf Astoria Hotel which is a nice, old-world yet spacious and welcoming hotel at the edge of the French Quarter – a great location because it is a close walk to French Quarter but not directly in it. The hotel has a nice, small gym with everyone one would need and the hotel in general is very open, spacious and welcoming.
Select Favorites
- Dining: The French Quarter has some wonderful lunch places including Sylvain and the Napoleon House and dinner spots including NOLA and Doris Metropolitan; for a great night at a sports bar with giant TVs, head to the riverfront area to Manning’s; our best dinners were in the warehouse district at Chophouse steakhouse and Meril’s italian.
- Activities: We played golf at two great local courses – English Turn and TPC Louisiana; definitely would recommend drinks in the revitalized uptown area at Cure, bourbon and a cigar at the open-air Cuban Crafters Cigar Lounge in the French Quarter and drinks at famous French Quarter spots like French 75, Cellar Door and the Carousel Bar.
Recommendation
I would recommend New Orleans as a destination to visit, especially if you are looking for moderate to warm weather in the winter months (when much of the rest of the US is cold) and a relaxing, friendly city to vacation or staycation. There is surprisingly nice golf and the neighborhoods have a great vibe and feel very close-knit. Enjoy!
